Earlier I posted a few polls about preferred location and month for a future meet in Europe. Here are the preliminary results.

My idea was to close the polls in a few days and take the top 3-5 or so and create a second round from those results. I’ll discuss this in the whatsapp group with previous attendees in advance.

Find the polls here. They’re still open:

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

About the last meet:

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

!!! UNSUPPORTED LINE BREAK IN HEADER !!!

Preliminary results:

Where?

Wales is in the lead, although the Nürburgring isn’t far behind. South-East France and the German Black Forest and to a lesser extent the Scottish Lake district and the Alps are still in the race as well.

As others mentioned: Isle of Man will be too cost prohibitive so imho it’s out of the race. I forgot to add Mallorca on time, so its lack of votes isn’t entirely fair. But, to be fair, although it’s a great destination it’ll mean flying in and thus steeper costs/rental cars for all.

Kinja'd!!!

Where should we NOT got?

No overly clear results here. Almost everything has 4-5 votes. I’m going to ignore this one, but will add a similar poll in the second round.

I did like the ‘other’ vote: it was a vote against Florida.

Kinja'd!!!

When?

Very clear results here. It’ll be 2018, not 2017. March-June 2018 to be more exact, looking at these results. The ‘other’ vote was for school holidays (Klaus?).

Kinja'd!!!

When not?

These results strongly support the previous poll.

Kinja'd!!!

All results graphs are screenshots from the website of poll provider polldaddy.

Last minute suggestions:

Add a poll for the number of days?

Combine the Nürburgring and the Black Forest?

I absolutely love the Lake District and considered offering it as an option, but since I’m not there, I didn’t feel it was right to comment. If you do that and all goes well for me this year, I’ll try to get over there for it.

Not Florida? But there’s all of Europe in Florida, there’s Naples, Venice, St. Petersburg, Dundee, Plymouth, Windermere......

Ok I’ll stop being a wiseass now.

Only thing I’ll need will be luck... Being in Europe at the same time as you do the trip. Cool thing being also that I’ll most likely be buying cars to ship to Japan while being there... So IF I make it to the meet, it will be with a cool car... Or else my slow ass Mini :)

I would suggest doing two events, much like this year: one meet of 1-3 days in a somewhat fixed and central location (Ring) or at an event (Le Mans, Goodwood, DTM, ...), and one trip of 3-5 days that can be somewhat further (Alps, Scotland, ...) and more of a holiday.

Wales would be awesome, plenty of great roads and places to stay.

I visited all New England states in the US last year. It was really amazing recognizing all those European city names there. Those settlers weren’t keen on creativity.

The stateside take is they were very proud of their homeland so they named their towns for where they were from. Most of these towns were founded from a single shipload from a single area.

I figured that. What did irk me was that one of the state capitals I visited was actually spelled wrong. Montpelier (Vermont) should be spelled with 2 Ls. The original (and much larger) French city is actually included in my poll above.

Want to go insane? Ask the locals how to pronounce the name of the town, In Maine Calais rhymes with Dallas, In Georgia Cairo is pronounced KAY-row and Berlin is pronounced in such a way I can’t even type it closest I can come up with BURR-lin

Oh I did. We had a tour through the historic official building that I forget the English name for, but which has the Senate and office of the governor and whatnot. So I was confronted with the pronunciation frequently.

That’s a bit cost restrictive from the perspective of a European. I believe there have been some meets in the US too, although (correct me if I’m wrong) no long weekend ones like what we’ve had in Belgium/Germany and in the Alps this year.

Why stop at June? Might as well start the date poll in April and extend it out to August/September. I would have voted for late June/early July as a number one pick.

Kinja'd!!!1

Because I had expected there to be some interest for autumn/winter, which turned out to be a miscalculation. We’ve had 2 meets this year, late March and late June (like you suggested). I expected people would’ve been interested in a third, but alas, spring 2018 it is. As mentioned by someone else here we could split it up into two meets for 2018 (like we did in 2017); a relatively short meet (weekend?) at a central place (like the Nürburgring) and a longer ‘holiday’ kind of trip at another time. Like a weekend in spring and a week (?) in June/July. But that’s just me brainstorming here.

Nothing is set in stone yet.

I live in Cumbria and am just a few miles out of The Lake District.

It is beautiful but not somewhere you want to be during the summer or peak time. The roads get heavily congested with tourists abandoning their cars where ever they see fit on already narrow country roads.

Given the UK’s reputation of year-round rain, I’m guessing we could just as well visit the region in March/April/October instead of during summer?

The U.K. Does get a lot of rain but we also get some really good weather (even in Cumbria) from late March/early April till late August. The south of England gets better weather than the north does though.

We might just get lucky then. The Ringmeet weekend was the only one with really good weather that month, so maybe we’re #blessed.

And if your last picture is representative, it’ll be stunning no matter the conditions.

A good route for you would be through the Yorkshire Dales, head towards Sedbergh, cross over the M6 motorway into south Cumbria, then up through Kendal (stop off and the Kendal Mint Cake factory for some insanely sweet and minty treats), over to Buttermere, back through to Ambelside area to catch some British, American and Dutch air force low flying manoeuvres through the valleys mid way through the Mach Loop. Then out via Bothel head out to Carlisle for some history on Roman Britain, then either head out east along the Roman road to Newcastle, or hit the M6 motorway north onto the M74 into Scotland.

To be honest there is quite a bit you’d want to see or experience, the route may not be best planned but see where it takes you.

Kind of how I spent my trip to Norway, This all seems really cool. I would head to Scotland after that, direction Skye.
My Doggo wouldn’t like the low flying manœuvres though

That last picture is the area of Wrynose Pass and Hardknott Pass, very narrow roads with some of the steepest ascents and descents in the U.K. There’s lots of history to take in going back to Roman times and before to more recent history, some great food, views that change every few minutes, weather that changes every few minutes, standing on a peak and looking down onto military aircraft doing the Mach Loop or simply looking down onto the clouds.

You’d have to stop off in Carlisle for an evening so I could buy you a pint or few.

The low flying isn’t all that loud compared to when they fly overhead, flying below you seems quieter. Also seeing Hercules and Chinooks skirting the water on Ullswater is unmissable.
